I bought a clean Sile Inc 50 cal Hawken an was wondering what the twist rate is I have some 385gr buffalo boolits I'd like to shoot in it.

likely has the same 1 in 48 twist as about 99% of the rest of the modern made 'Hawkens'. shoot yer boolits & be happy.
It is easy to measure the twist rate as follows: Take a cleaning rod with a slotted end on it and mark it with 1 inch lines. Use one or two patches through the slot, just enough so the rod is hard to push into and pull out of the bore. Bottom the cleaning rod and mark a line on it and a matching line on the muzzle. Slowly pull the cleaning rod out, letting it rotate until it does 360 degrees. Count the inch marks to see what the distance is. If the twist rate is slow like 1 in 66 or even 1 in 48 you might not get a full 360 rotation of the cleaning rod so just use 180 degrees and then double it.
