Did a search but did not come up with anything.
Just bought a 1895 Guide gun in 45-70 and was wondering if any one here has powder coated bullets for one?
Thinking of sizing to .571 than powder coat. Thanks for any input in advance.

I'm hoping you mean .461, not .571. Otherwise that is a sewer pipe of a 45-70 bore.
I have powder coated 45-70 in an H&R Handi with great success, sizing to .460 after powder coating. I have done this with both 405 grain and 535 grain projectiles.

I powder coat the Lee 457-340-F and size it to .459. I Hi-Tek the C457-500-F and size to .459.
Hi-Tek is a thin coating and will not make the nose too big to chamber.

I use the NOE moulds and PC them. Frankly.....all I've ever done is PC them and never actually lubed them. Accuracy is great and I size mine to .360 and clean up afterwards is real easy, I'm talking cleaning the bore.

I powdercoat the Lyman 292 gr boolit.
At first I did 2 coats and got them up to .462 and used them in unsized brass,
trying to make the brass last longer.
They worked great, but the barrel seemed to get warmer from the friction, I suppose.
Next I'll size to .460 and use partially resized brass.
I've also powdercoated .454 diameter 200 gr SWC's up to .459 and used them
in the 45-70. Great no recoil load, a 50 yd walk-about load. Paper patching
this boolit works well too.
Thanks Guys.
I meant .457 with a Lee Push through sizer.
I'm too chicken at my age to have a .45-70...........but my pal does and I cast the LEE 405gr. and PC it for HIM, LOL. I don't know if he sizes them or not: I don't.

Not a 45-70 but close. I like the 450gn Lee PB and PC'd in my Ruger M77 tang safety in 458WM pushed to 1,600fps. The recoil is tolerable even for 30-40 rounds down range per session. These do put a serious hurt on hogs out to the 100-150 yards I typically hunt at.

I use the Lee 500 gr. RNL with gas check coated in Hi Tek in my .460 Weatherby.
28 grs of Unique (old load out of a Lyman cast bullet manual) gives me around 1,200 fps if I remember correctly.
Here is what it looks like: yes the "little" round is a .223

No. Don't do that. Half that.
14 is about that fps 40 would disassemble your gun no tools neded.

Crackers and Freightman I was wrong in my quoting load data off the top of my head for my .460 Weatherby. Thanks for questioning it and making me go back and checking.
Crackers, the starting load is 20 grs. but the max load in 28 grs. and that it what I have been using for 15+ years now.
Freightman 28 grs. of Unique behind the 500 gr. Lee bullet works fine and shoots well in a .460 Weatherby. I think you may be thinking 45-70, I use 14 grs. of Unique behind a 350 gr. all the time as a plinking load in my 45-70.
Again, thanks for questioning me. I was just adding my 0.02 cents about using Hi Tek coated bullets in big bore rifles.
Attachment 196907 Works for me .
