Chronograph data

I've been waiting for a day like today to get some chronograph/accuracy data from my American Classic II, .45 ACP... a bright cloudy day with no wind. Today was also the first time I've fired boolits from my new Arsenal Mold. I wanted to compare it with the Lee 200-grain SWC, but, even though I was positive I had 50 rounds loaded I couldn't find them.

The boolit drops 227 grains from my 50/50 COWW/SOWW alloy, and the mold was an absolute joy to use.
So here's the load data...
Cases - IMI Match and PMC
Primer - Federal 150
Propellant - 5.0 grains Bullseye
Lube - My homemade stuff, I couldn't duplicate it if I wanted to.

The chronograph data was impressive as far as ballistic uniformity. I ran 100 rounds over the sky screens located 7 feet down range from the muzzle. Five 20 round strings... slow fire and rapid fire with each head stamp, and then a 20 round string of mixed head stamps.
String #1 - 842 FPS average, 29 FPS extreme spread.
String #2 - 841 FPS average, 7 FPS extreme spread (that ain't a typo... 7 FPS for 20 rounds).
String #3 - 842 FPS average, 26 FPS extreme spread.
String #4 - 842 FPS average, 34 FPS extreme spread.
String #5 - 840 FPS average, 27 FPS extreme spread.

I wish I could report tiny groups, but the guy pressing the trigger wasn't holding up his end from the get-go. It's been some time since I've shot a handgun from sand bags, and I'm pretty rusty... and no doubt the muggy conditions and last night's whiskey amplified that. I didn't even bother to change the target... I wasn't in the game. Still, all 100 rounds would have clanked a 6-inch steel pate with a bit of room to spare (25 yards).

Anyway, I've got a few hundred of the Lee 200 grain SWCs cast, sized, and lubed... and since then I've removed the bevel-base from the mold. My plan is to test the difference between the bevel-base and the flat base... report pending.

Oh... and I forgot to mention the barrel was spotless after the 100 rounds.

I'm impressed with your data...how are you throwing charges?

I use an RCBS Uniflow with the small drum reversed so it dumps on the down stroke.

Yep...I figured as much, the Uniflow and the Lyman 55 are my two favorites...

Uniflow and the lyman are good measures and with consistant operation can be very accurate measures. The lyman is the basis of several custom measures the Culaver and Harrels come to mind. The low extreme spread will make more difference at the longer ranges as velocity has more effect then.
