Cast boolit in a ported Ruger Toklet 454 Casull?

I am waiting for a 454 Casull with porting at the end of the barrel.

Will I be successful when using cast boolits in this gun?

Has anybody had experience in using cast in a ported weapon? Any tips or info will be appreciated.

This is a customized Ruger Redhawk Toklet model 454 Casull revolver with a modified cylinder capable of utilizing moon clips so I will be able to use 45 ACP ammo along with 45 Colt and the 454 Casull ammunition. The people at Wild West Guns here in Las Vegas call it a Wolverine.

If the porting job is cut properly,,, I do not see why you can't use cast bullets.

I have found that porting or compensators can scavenge lead off the bases. I used to run FMJs through my compensated race guns, both 9mm, and eventually it lead up to buildup of lead in the comps. Since the FMJs wete an open base/exposed lead design, its the only place it could have been from. As the bullet passes the opening the rush of hot, high pressure gas ends up gas cutting the base. It may not be a big deal on ports where the flow of gas might keep the opening clean.

I have three FA revolvers in 454 casull , one has a SSK muzzle break and the other two have magnaport , no problem with any using cast PB or gas checked bullets, on the MP guns there is some deposits along the sides of the front sight base but a pre 1981 copper penney will remove it .

I have several other guns with comps , when lead builds up just use a slow ball powder loaded to full power or a little less and fire at least 6 shots or more depending on the amount of leading with gas checked bullets or even better jacketed bullets and the lead will be blasted out.

My 4" 454 Redhawk is Mag-na-ported and all that happens is the front sight gets dirty. It's never seen a jacketed bullet. Congrats and enjoy your 454!
