I still have a bunch of the steel cans, my main powder storage is a very large Navy ammo can I believe for 30MM. At any rate, I can fit 7 or 8 pounds side to side with just enough slack to easily pull them out, if all new powder was in Dupont/IMR type metal cans I could fit near 75 pounds in there, as it is with all the round plastic (especially the overly tall Alliant bottles) I can only fit about 30 pounds.

Back in the 80' there was a vendor that sold bulk bullets and powder he bought from the factory (as in 50 gallon drums of bullets and powder), he sold the powder in black plastic 1 quart oil bottles, these were ne that he got from a refinery and they make perfect powder containers. We have a refinery in Bradford, PA so I think I will give them a call, it would be great to transfer all my powder to these oil bottles, best of both worlds with no rust and easy pohring to the last grain of powder.

Here's a tip.. I miss the old square metal cans, too, but I have found a good substitute in empty paint cans. I think they are pint size. You can buy new ones at Guiry's.

I picked up a can of Limey green SR 4756 yesterday, December 8th 1977, can was unopen and powder is good to go

I'm not sure how old my lime green 4756 can is, but it still has the $3.50 price tag on it.

They did stack well and you could fit a lot in a small area. But they were hard to get the last bit of powder out of. And were prone to corrosion. Not a big deal for guys in the desert. But an issue for those in the rust belt. I have a couple cans left w/ powder in them but won't really miss them when I use it all up.

I will take them if you don't want them. Less powder of course. What numbers do you have?

Happy,happy,joy,joy! My cuz got these in a garage clean out and gave them to me. Only the H250 has been opened and I've never seen it before anyway. NONE have an acrid odor so load with them I will!

My late eighties vintage 3031 was red.

I remember loading shotgun with 700 or 800x in a black can.

I kept empty cans for a long time until I purged them in a move. I wish I still had them for decoration; 4895, 4064, 3031 were my mainstays back then. The funnel Winchester cans weren't as cool with their paper labels. I had 748 and 231. The hodgdon I had were newly plastic. BLC2 was a favorite of mine then.

I'm excited about the 4320. It was my only powder for my 22-250 when I started reloading as a kid. The aroma of a shot will be a time machine.

Back in the early 60s I would buy 4895 from a feller that reloaded for the police dept. It cost 50 cents for a pint paint can brand new full of IMR 4895.

About 12 years ago I purchased 5lbs of 4895 from a fellow that was getting out of reloading, and I was just getting into it. Seem like I give him $5 a lb for it, I still have one unopened, but I did save the other empties, cause one day I'll decorate my man cave with all this old stuff.

A quart and pound are a world around I grew up hearing and storing the bulk shotgun and handgun powders we had. When we started hand loading around 1978 the local supplier bought powder in kegs (which I'd bought a few back then) and he sold 1 pound bags to keep the powder cost down for us poor hand loaders. Since our powder selection was small with what quart cans we had they stacked nicely with the powder identification on the lid and can. Still using them to this day and a good reminder of the beginning days for our life long hobby. Well made metal quart cans that are plated can be obtained at a locally owned paint stores.
