    Weird Brass

Saw this brass today at the range..... thinking maybe it's to have consistent seating depth? Picture is turned but you can see the 'ledge' in there. Head stamp is Maxxtech.

The stuff I brought home went in the recycle bucket.

    BZ,

Its designed to prevent set back, and as is apparent, needs to be segregated from standard brass to be reloaded due to reduced interior volume.

They are also bad about separating when reloaded. Freedom munition 9mm are similar, the step not being quite as pronounced. I have reloaded the FM's with no problems or failures to date.

Scrap bucket. Is anyone really so hard up for 9mm brass that they'd segregate and save this stuff?

I have only found 9mm examples in my range pick up. I toss 'em when I see them, but almost sure some must have slipped by on the 550. What with the eyes starting to go and all. Nothing has blown up though.

I guess I should expound by saying I do not reload either type, they go in the brass bucket when found now. The FM's were an experiment.

There was quite an extensive thread on this not too long ago. Might be okay for duplicating factory 124 gr. FMJs but, personally, I chuck the stuff into the 'RECYCLE' bucket whenever I run across it.

A friend was shooting USPSA and one of the pieces of brass separated at the shelf in the photo below. The front half stayed in the gun and the next round jammed tight into it. He could not clear it and was done for the day. Toss it. It's foreign brass, Malaysia IIRC. Used in a few different headstamps , FM, IMT and some others.

From this thread on another forum:
    https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...d.php?t=947361

"I heard back from Freedom about the brass. It seams that the step inside the case is simply a product of their manufacturing process. Witch is manufactured here is the U.S. using a process called impact extrusion. The step can vary a bit due to differences in the material that is used to manufacturer the brass."

Here is the Maxxtech compared to FN. I see lots of brass with the smaller ledge, but this Maxxtech is something else, and very heavy.
