    38 Special & Accurate Mold 36-255C

Has anyone used the Accurate Mold 36-155C bullet designed for black powder with either BP or Pyrodex in the 1872 Open Top in 38 Special? If so, which alloy and bullet lube do you prefer with this bullet?

Have not used this bullet in .38 Special, but to use the similar design Accurate bullets in both .44-40 and .45 Colt with 1:40 tin-lead and what we call Confederate Army Lube, equal parts by melted volume of Goya Manteca (unsalted, filtered lard used in Mexican cooking) and beeswax.

Use as much 3Fg Goex as the case will hold with 1/8" compression, about 35 grains in Starline brass in either .44-40 or .45 Colt, would expect about 20 grains in .38 Special.

Soft alloy and soft lube is best with black.

I use a soft alloy sorry Idont know what it is but would guess something like 30 to1 a friend gave it to me he did not know what it was. My lube is beeswax, olive oil, lanolin about 70-20-10 and 3fg.

That bullet is a scaled down version of the successful 43-215c designed for the 44-40. It works well in my marlin cowboy .357 rifle.
I don't think the extra lube is needed in shorter barrels especially with pyrodex and good BP,...... olde ensyford, Swiss

I ordered the 36-155C bullet mold from Tom at Accurate Molds near the end of May and received it a few days ago. I was expecting a longer wait but Tom gets these out to us in short order! I plan to use the bullet for black powder loads in the Uberti 1872 Open Top 38 Special as well as the Pietta 1873 SAA (Alchimista III) in .357 Mag. The bullet has a very large grease groove which will hold a lot of SPG lube or a homebrew lube to keep the fouling soft.

I ran off about 300 of these today and loaded up a few test loads with 12 grains (by weight) of Pyrodex-P in the 38 Special cases and 14 grains (by weight) in the .357 magnum cases. Sized at .359 and carrying a payload of SPG bullet lube, these slid into the cases right nice. Cartridge OAL is 1.450 for the 38’s and 1.580 for the .357 Magnum.

It got too dark and late to fire these off tonight although the display would have been fantastic. It’s actually too hot tonight and I don’t feel like sweating out in the shed cleaning the revolver tonight. Posted are some pictures of this great looking bullet. Thanks again to Tom at Accurate Molds for producing these wonderful bullet molds.
