synthetic felt has filler wad value?🤔

Hi there my friends, I just scored many pounds of synthetic felt at a local saddle shop and got wondering if they could be punched into filler wads for my brass shells. I plan on using smokeless only, since BP could set these on fire 😂😂😂. Thickness is about 1/2".Click image for larger version.

It's not the real thing, but looks like this.

    Many thanks in advance.

Those felt wads from Ballistic Products are wool or at least natural fibers if I'm not mistaken. I would think that stuff in the picture would work well. I don't know that I'd be too concerned about fire, I've used toilet paper before in my black powder and all that came out was a cloud of shreds. As long as it stays in a disk, it should work well for a cushion wad.

Thanks friends! I got about 30 pounds of the stuff, free, and was thinking it would be a shame to throw that away. As for the BP fires, it was just a little joke.

Reminds me of the padding used before carpet gets laid. Hmmm.

It's used to stuff horse saddles and they also make some under saddle pads (don't know the right word in English), the mat you put over the horse, before the saddle. It's quite stiff and thick (1/2 more or less).

I have this same material in 1/4'' and 3/8'' that I use for under Lee slugs to gain crimp height. Works good for me. It is somewhat hard and does give some but not much.

I have used synthetic felt for shotgun wads many times. When my rubber boots get too many holes to bother repairing, I remove the liners and punch out shotgun wads. They work fine.

I have the same stuff in ½". It's made from recycled denim and other cotton. If it burns to ash it's natural and works great, if it melts and gets sticky then its not going in my barrel !!!!.
