2400 Powder 290 Grain Cast Loads

Looking for data on 2400 powder . Need a starting point for 44 mag 290 to 300 grain cast loads for hollow points. Plain based powder coated is how I plan to load them . My Lyman cast manual has 300 cast data but no hollow points .Was thinking about starting at 13.5 grains . Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated .Perhaps this should have went in cast boolits forum if so Mods please move .

You don't say what type 44 magnum you're shooting but there wouldn't be any difference between a 300 gr. solid & a 300 gr. HP if the bullet design was the same. If the seating depth is different then that changes everything. Starting at 13.5 grs. of 2400 should be quite easy in any 44 magnum with the bullets you mention.

I have three 44 4 inch stainless a Ruger Redhawk . S&W 629 and a Tarus . Plan on using the Ruger to work up the loads . Thanks

Alliant's website calls out a charge of 19 grains of 2400 for the 300 grain Speer UCSP (Uni-Cor SP) - seems like a lead bullet ought to work with about any load that a J-word does - unless of course your moving the lead out too fast. So it appears that 13.5 grains should:
A) be safe
B) be very comfortable to shoot in a RedHawk.

2400 works well with a 290 gr cast. Try 16 gr in your Redhawk with a standard primer. You might have to adjust slightly. [up or down .3 gr]
