    Wano black powder..

I have access to WANO through a Explosives Company, They have 2F, 3F and its half the price of Swiss, GOEX etc ($100-110 kg)
    Any opinions on the powder?
I will be running it in a 45/70 1874 Uberti Sharps Buffalo Hunter. I will be running a 650 grain flat nose.

Mad, I have no personal experience with it but know a couple guys who do. They liked it.

I have not shot Swiss but shot old type Goex 5FA for years - in my 44/40 over the chronygrap that old Goex runs better than 100FPS quicker than WANO PPP - blokes that have shot Swiss tell that it is better again velocity by a decent margin
So Wano is definitely not as much cheaper than Swiss as it looks to be - you will need more by weight to get the same result - cant get it in the case though!
60 gr load of Swiss will do the same as 70 gr Wano - you get the swiss in the case easy - room for a lube disc if you need it (shouldnt) - room for a card wad if you need it - (dont know why but a lot of fellers use em!) my math gets Wano at 29.5 cents per shot - Swiss at 43 cents per shot - significant? - yeah - that big lump of lead will cost ya 30cents too - what are you shooting with it?

From what I understand, Schuetzen brand powder is just re-packaged Wano powder. I tried a couple of pounds of it in my long range rifle, and in my .38-55 CPA. Accuracy was quite good at short range ( 200m ), but velocity variation was terrible. Velocity is also much lower than Swiss. I would use it for practice at short distances, but not in a match.

Schuetzen (Wano), KIK and Swiss are the only powders that use Alder Buckthron to make their charcoal.
Here are 2 loading data's for bullets shot at 1000 yds with accuracy:
    530gr bullet - 75gr Swiss 1.5Fg - 1214 fps
530gr bullet - 75gr Wano FFg (Sifted to remove fines) - 1194 fps
515gr bullet - 73gr Wano FFg (Sifted to remove fines) - 1259 fps

I don't know what you intend to use it for. In other words, how demanding the ammo's requirements will be. My guess is with a 650gr FN bullet you are shooting short distance large targets and it will be great.

For best accuracy, and especially long range accuracy, a better bullet and better powder is needed. That bullet will hinder stability past a certain distance.

    G,day
I use Wano P,I belive the F grades are mainly used for pryo ,fireworks etc, others here in AU have used the P grades with some success ,reason I say they seem to vary is confirmed by John Boy who said he sifted the fines out of the F grades ,the P grade I have used has none at all.

    Cheers Mal in au.

I found decent accuracy in the 45-70 using 2f Schuetzen under 530 gr bullets. 65 gr. in remington cases,ww lr primer, .030 fiber wad, zero compression.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

You can get Black powder for $.50 a pound and you wonder what to buy???? 110KG is 2.4 pounds or so it seems. Or do you mean per KG ant $100?

I guess I read it differently.

$100 to $110 per kilogram is how I interpreted his post. Something in the area of $40 per pound.

That was my thought too. That is why I thought of short range stuff or CAS type shooting. A 457124 or 457193 could solve that. Or many others...

    mad,
    your question raises 2 points.
    1) wano p powders are quite good.
they are used by many shooters with great success and accuracy.
    2) the bullet you mention is meant for the 458 win mag with faster twist and higher velocity than bpcr.
it is meant to give deep penetration on big game, but needs the stability mentioned to do it.
    a specialized bullet.
at long range in a bpcr reliable accuracy would be suspect in dirty weather.
buffalo arms has many good bullet moulds with much slipperier nose shapes, and you should not exceed 1.450" in length assuming an 18" twist.
    keep safe,
    bruce.
