    Place your bets....

Too light to be lead. High pitch ring when struck with lead ingot. Has to be better than 20-30 yrs old. Was in the back of gramps garage. I am thinking zinc? Maybe sacrificial anode? We do not live near salt water however.

If you have an accurate measuring device or two, put a known amount of water in a graduated container, then add the piece and see what its displacement is. Once you have its volume, weigh it. If you are lucky and its pure/not an alloy, then its a matter of looking up weights per unit volume.

    Zinc is .257#/in3
    Lead is .409
    Tin is .263
    Aluminum is .092

My bet is it's a hammer die alloy. Zamak or similar.

Well. I pointed a propane torch at an edge for about 20 min. Nothing melted off. Wore my very used disc down before I could get a piece off to try to melt alone. The quest continues. Hha

I switched to MAPP gas for my "propane torch" needs. Much faster for household soldering and brazing.
