I picked up a bunch of 'stuff' a while back. A friend's relative died and he gave me a bunch of so called lead. I need help identifying what it is I have.
First off is what I'm pretty sure is 100% lead or darn close. It is spools of wire 3/8" and 1/2" in diameter. It is very soft via the thumbnail test. The wire looks like old oxidized lead. It melts like pure lead. It has a blueish cast when poured into ingots and air cooled enough to handle. The metal spools are 25#. They are lime green in color. They say Kirkson Products and Morris P Kirkson & Sons Inc La CA made in USA. Says nothing about solder or lead or even what it is. They are older spools, hard to say how old but I'd guess at least 10 years old. Maybe 20 or even 30 years old.
Next is a spool of 1/4" wire on a spool roughly the same size as the Kirkson spools. However this spool says Divco wire solder. Also says "a good name carries weight" and Division Lead CO Summit Illinois. It is a silver and blue spool. The wire is silvery in color and it melts slushy like it has tin or antimony. The air cooled ingots have a very slightly frosted yet shiny silver look. Not to unlike my ingots of 1 to 20 tin/lead alloy I purchased from RotoMetals. Obviously it is not pure lead, but anyone have any idea as to what type of solder it might be? It is very soft via the fingernail test.
I understand that this might be an impossible sort of thing to figure out but any help with this would be appreciated!
