    Uberti Lightening

Base pin won't release. I have the base pin puller from Brownells - doesn't work. I can hear it hitting metal as I try to pull it. This hasn't happened before, I've had it out several times in the past.

Do I need to do something with the double screw that locks it in?

If the base pin has been installed all the way it acts like a hammer block safety, when the hammer hits
it to many times it may flair the end a little causing it to hang up and be hard to extract.
The pin retaining screw/spring should not be the cause.

Gun is almost new and hasn't been fired all that much. I will check, though. Certainly not larger than the rest of the pin, though. That would be obvious.

I have a Uberti Cattleman that I bought used. As Calamity Jake pointed out the rear of the base pin could be peened. Mine was. I had to completely disassemble the revolver and remove the hammer in order to tap the pin out with a brass punch. Once the factory base pin was out I replaced it with one from Belt Mountain.
