Can anyone identify this barrel tenon?

I picked up a barrel at a local shop. I had an inkling that it was a Remington 700, but I don't think that's it.I believe the thread to be cut @ 20

Looks Mauserish to me. IMHO, Definitely not rem 700 series, they have a recess for the bolt head.

Isn't Savage 1.055x 20tpi? I know I've run into 20tpi before. Could be a aftermarket or gunsmith barrel without the barrel nut.

There is no makers mark on the barrel, just the caliber. 338-06

If nothing else I hope that there is enough meat left on the tenon to cut it to a action I have .

I'd wager that you have enough meat on there to recut depending on tenon. T/C Encores are chambered in .300 Win Mag and they only have a 1" diameter barrel.

I have no idea what action the barrel came off of but... the muzzle break looks a lot like part of the old Answer Products "Answer System" - the "System" was a muzzle break and a buffer inside the stock. Then again it could be that a good gunsmith made a very nice fitting break.

Definitely not a remington barrel as it lacks the recess for the front of the bolt. Not a mauser either as they normally have about 12 threads per inch. Could be either a ruger or winchester barrel if the threads are 16tpi and a 1" shank. While not the coned breach of the older moodel 70's. the newer ones did have a flat faced barrel breech end as they went from the controlled round mauser type extractor to the push feed extractor located in the right locking lug. My post '64 winchester match rifle in '06 has the flat faced breech end barrel and the extractor is in the right locking lug. So maybe a winnie take off barrel? If no win logo on the barrel most likely a rebarrel using an aftermarket barrel. After this i'm fresh out of ideas. Frank

The thread length and shoulder appear to be SAKO, but the thread is too large for most of the SAKO actions

A gunsmith rebarrelled a Savage 110 for me and did away with the barrel nut. He gave me back the old barrel and the thread on it looks about 20tpi (quite fine, finer than my Mauser or Winchester 670), It also seems to go longer than the other threads.

I can't see the pic with the diameter, but it might be Weatherby MK V. I think the MK V also has a counterbore though.

I don't think so WR. It doesn't twist like the Boss style, to turn them on /off.
My best guess from what I've found is that it's for a Savage 110 that doesn't utilize a barrel nut. But at this point, still a guess.

1.55 x 20tpi looks likes a small shank Savage to me. One that has been converted from the barrel nut system
