    Lee Enfield no4 mk1 question

Hello all, just in the process of bringing back a no4 from being sporterized. My question is about the forstock metal cap (lower)and how is it fastened. Do the pins go into the stock then the metal cap snaps over it and then the front band is installed?

I've removed the metal caps by punching the pins out. I don't think the cap would easily snap down over each of the ends of both pins at once.
When removing pins from old handguards they pushed through fairly easily, but they might be much tighter in new wood.
When replacing the caps after cleaning the wood I just pushed the pins in last.

Best I can say is do it which ever way is easiest and less damaging to the wood.

Cap first then the pins. Some are peened over some are not.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have the cap or pins yet. I can get a cap but pins are hard to find (i can make those easily enough if they are peened at the ends)

Springfield Sporters has the pins for the forearm cap. From what I know, they're good people to deal with. Might be worth waiting until you know what other parts you will need to save shipping.

I did check them, caps only no pins. I did get some other bits from them.

I got my lower cap and pins from Numrich. The pins hold the cap in place and they have a flat spot on one side that the front band just catches to keep them in place. Rifle is now complete and got out to my "range" for some shooting tonight. Good times

I usually have my order from them in about 2 weeks which I think is quick.
    Good people to deal with.

Numrich always was good to me. Those extra charges aren't to bad if you get a full order. Order now our dollar is predicted to drop even more.
The flats should just fit the upper band, to keep it snug.
