Nice project. I went through the same steps with a better bore, so I just opened the chamber up to 32 H&R (which had just come out a year or two before) and never looked back. I had the exact same problem with the primer strikes... it's because the firing pin had to hit farther away from center to hit the 32 rim. My gunsmith made a new link to adjust the height properly and I was good to go. I've never seen a block for a 38 or 44 rimfire, but I bet they would require some really serious adjustment in block height.
