Arisaka type 99 in 300 savage

Looking for a cast bullet load using unique. I have slugged the barrel and its .315. I have the Lee 312-160 and Lyman 311291 (170 gr)

Wow! An Arisaka with a .311 bore-- I didn't know they made such a wonderful thing. My old babe, a 308, mikes out at .315 - I would have had to get a custom mould for it and I never did that.

My 300 Savages like 10 grains of Unique with my little 120 grain 32/20 bullets and also a 150 grain plain base. I haven't shot anything hotter than that or used longer boolits out of 300 Savage.

In 308 I have happily used 15 grains of Unique with the 170 grain Lyman 31141 for around 1700 fps. And that (or maybe drop to 14 grains for the slightly smaller case) would work fine in your 300 Savage Arisaka with your boolits I'd bet.

I slugged it again and it appears to be .315 , But the rifling is strong and crisp.

Both of mine slug at .312 with one that opens up to .314 by the chamber. Been shooting a Lee 312100 plinker over a light load of fast pistol powder which is fun out to 50yds but not very accurate. Brass is resized and trimmed 30-06 or resized 8mm Mauser which is just a tad short but was free.
Also load condom bullets for them. They are fun rifles and I like the way they look.

Accurate or NOE will have the mold you need. Get a .316 GC mold and don't look back.

You might want to use a softish plainbase bullet and kick it in the pants with Unique to get a good bore seal if those .317"s won't chamber.

Ok, had best results with sks bullet 312-160 (beagled mold) and sized .317. Made a .315 expander plug for my full length sizer die. Ran 13 grains of unique with about a 1 1/2" group at 50 yards. Fun gun to plink with
