Some flatnose seating stems have a lip around them. Don't have a clue why. I just grind it off and all is well.

SS This is what a roll crimp die looks like, the crimping shoulder can't contact the tip of the bullet.

A couple swipes with sandpaper and polished it with mothers.
You would think die makers would manufacture it this way for the flat nose bullet. It came with this plug and a conical. Rcbs sent me a 45 cal barnes plug to seat leverrution bullets...which it makes a ring around the bullet when I seat them. I polished the inside of it and will have to wait till I load some up to see how I did.

I didn't want to waste a blue bullet since they were all gas checked so I grabbed one of my zombie killers with a single coat of paint. Came same day from same supplier.
That is some hard lead. It took me a good 15-20 wacks with a hammer on my side walk...Attachment 194957

That flat piece of lead was hotter than heck after I gave it a beating. The first couple of wacks hitting it from top to bottom didn't even fase it or make it look like it was hit.

commercial bullets are mostly 2-6-92 , 15 - 18 bhn -- to me, to hard for most hand guns loads. I believe they cast that hard to maintain bullet integrity in shipping.

I don't like swinging hard so I use a 2# sledge (more like a heavy hammer) for smash testing.

If you flare enough to cover 2-3 thou over SAAMI, most seater dies will want to start removing the flare. As the flare is removed it catches the bullet.

    I use 45 Colt for 44
    44 for 41 and 359
    358 for 30 caliber.

    It works.
