    30/30 and Lyman 31141

I would like to start reloading for my safe Queen my 1894/1994 Winchester 30/30 yes I have had this rifle for 23 years
and never shot it anyway I would like to use my Lyman 31141 mold only powder I have on hand is pistol powder
Unique and RedDot if I use one of these powders is a filler needed and or would I be better off to pick up some other powder like IMR 3031 I'm just looking to shoot paper & steel from 50 to 100 yards
    Thank's

My 45th Edition Lyman Handbook lists 7.0 gr. Unique (1240 fps) as a starting load for the 31141 with 10.6 gr. (1555 fps) as max. I've used Unique in 'gallery' loads for several calibers and haven't noticed any position sensitivity so shouldn't need any kind of filler.

I've had very nice results with IMR4064, IMR3031, and H4895 in the 30-30 with cast.
I have had pretty lame results with faster powders. YMMV.....

Around 4-5 grains of red dot with that boolit sans gas check and sized .311 and cut the center out of the bull at 50 yards.

Seems to me you have two perfect powders for sending lead down range.

This might well be a place worth looking also.

Lucky, I've got a 21" Contender barrel and Unique under the Lyman 31141 is what I use. Also have a 6c 31141 GC and 6c plain base from the early Lee group here. The Lee drops a pile of bullets fast that shoot well but the old Lyman drops just a little nicer bullets. I don't use any filler with the Unique loads.

I also wanted a Target Load for my Winchester '94 30-30. My 311041 load development went from 4.1 to 7.0 grains of Red Dot, with powder coated, no GC, and unsized boolits. This load combination hit an accuracy node at 4.5 to 5.1 grains in my rifle. I used the Lee Factory Crimp to apply a firm crimp, which I think help to obtain consistent ignition. No Filler. I cannot find pictures of my targets, however here are the results of my chrony data.

I use 18 grns of 2400 with a gas check on both 31141 and the lee boolit. they run about 1850 fps. The accuracy is around 2" at 100, which is about as good as my eyes will allow.

3031. Red Dot. Unique. Those three in that order for my two 30-30 rifles. A custom Mauser 93 and a Win 94. Please send pics of your gun!

Just shot at range yesterday my 14 inch bull Contender barrel in 30-30. 7.5 grains Unique shot well but think 7.9 grains Unique was a little more accurate.

I just tried 18 and 19 gr. of 4198 in my 1967 Canadian Centennial 26".
The 19gr. gave me 1.12" @ 50yds. with iron sights.
Going to up it to 19.5 and 20gr.

hylander is on to something! I've found that 19.8 grains of H4198 (that's what my Little Dandy rotor #23 throws) under almost any 170 to 180 grain cast bullet gives good accuracy at around 1600 fps.

Using that bullet sized to .309 I had nice results with 4.5 gr. Titegroup. Very accurate and pleasant to shoot.
