I got this in a yard sale yesterday. I think it is too pretty to use. The owner must have thought so too. He never used it.

I thought so too but his widow informed me that his shotgun was a Mossberg pump and it had never been fired. She was disappointed when I told her what it was worth. The wood does appear to be ebony.

I never could understand people who buy stuff that was meant to be used then just put it up to look at. if ya ain't gonna use it, it's worthless & ya might as well just have a 'pitcher' of a cleanin' kit as it would be just as useful & take up much less space. but, to each his own I guess.

I think A&F was pretty much always a marketing company, much like what Browning is today. That set doesn't look quite like one of their "best quality" items, but it surely isn't "run of the mill," either! Very nice set, but I'm the type of guy who won't have anything I can't use. If it were mine, I'd just use it, and enjoy it's somewhat "upper crust" quality. That's just me, of course, and I'm not entirely sure of its real value in dollars, so .... it might be worth investigating, at least? Wish I could give a better and more informed opinion.

That set is way too nice to use. Totally a collector item. I remember going to the "Gun Room" at A&F in Chicago in the early '60s. It was awesome!

Aberchrombie made quality items then. I bought a a/f ww2 era rucksack recently and just love it.
