    Range scrap

Went to the range and the pistol range has a spot where the bullets are 95% hard cast, took 30 min and sifted a bucket 1/2 full. Smelted it this morning 70# of lead, BHN 14 not bad for 30 min of sifting.

If you measured the 14 BHN on smelting day it'll get harder by almost 2 points in a week.

The range scrap I get is about 90% jacketed. But my brother gets it for me so other than the propane and the time spent it is nearly free.
His range is in a river bottom and he uses a rake and a shovel and sifts out the dirt.

The propane can be free too. Sell the jackets to the recycler for the price of dirty copper and it buys your fuel.

16 BHN for commercial cast sounds correct.
    it's usually 2/6/92 alloy.
