Lead CWW were banned by the EPA about 5 years ago. They have allowed the existing supplies to run out. I think large truck weights are still lead.
QUIS CUSTODIET IPSOS CUSTODES?
It's a state by state thing. Here in NY they were banned around 2012 or so. The progressives are just trying to force shooters to spend more & more money until we can't afford to shoot anymore. I have been expecting NY to make possession of lead illegal for some time now. Unfortunately, that time WILL come....................

Another great transaction with the Captain.
I got my 25 lb box of COWW ingots, right on time as expected. They look great.
I finally have a weekend off coming up and I see some casting in the plans.
Thanks again,
Steve in N CA
Hi Kathie! Got my SOWW's yesterday afternoon, REALLY GREAT job of packaging! Thanks again!

First of all, I like to wish everyone a happy holiday season!
Update on wheel weights. Slim pickings here. If I took into account [1] my travel time (for one place, 2 hours total) and gas, [2] my time to sort through the wheel weights to separate ww's from lug nuts, broken wrenches, valve stems, allen wrenches, wire brushes, and other junk [3] my time to smelt the ww's [4] and cost of propane, I lost money. So, I will not take into account 1,2,3 and 4 [and my rent]. The only people that came out way ahead of the game are the people I bought the 2 batches of ww's from! I made very little profit (none yet as of this writing because I have not yet sold all of the ingots! To date: have sold 75+lbs as advertised in a previous post).
Unfortunately in my area, there are numerous scrap yards, and the tire shops can shop around. Thus, I have to match the price that the scrapyards offer. Per previous posts: So for the 1196 pounds, I matched the scrapyard's pricing. For the 600+lbs (which I bought from a scrapyard), I had to pay them what they paid the customer. Apparently, whoever the scrapyards sell the weights to, don't mind that there is very little lead and zinc; and a boatload of steel ww's. I don't know that part of the business so I don't understand it due to the bulk of the ww's being steel.
Out of the 2 batches, I got at best: 30% lead. Last year this time, I got 48% lead. The steel (for the last 2 batches of ww's fetched) amounted to about 70%. Unless I can buy ww's at a lower price (at least half that I what I paid a few weeks ago), I am abandoning wheel weights as a source of lead.
For now, I have a continuous supply of range lead and will continue on with it.
For the holiday season, I am not selling any lead. The line at the post office is almost out the door. So I will resume either after Christmas or after the 1st of January. I will advise by way of another post here in this thread.
In closing, I just want to thank all of my forum customers for doing business with me; and another thank you for those of you who refer me to the "newbies"; and yet again, another thank you for those of you who are "repeat customers".... Blessings to you! And may everyone have a happy, safe and healthy holiday season!
With warm regards to all,
~ Kathie

Just wanted to thank you for all the lead I was able to get from you over the years. One day again maybe you will have some soft lead to sell and I will have funds to buy. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and lets hope it is a better year for us all

Happy Holidays to All...........
I was doing a cleanup of my home shop, and tripped across small ingots (most cast using the RCBS mold). I know most were smelted a few years ago and show the age/oxidation on some of the surfaces! I believe (if I am correct) that possibly some of these may be harder than the advertised 12-14 bhn due to age (but no guarantee). The weight of each ingot depends on the pour, with some being less than 1 pound.
Same price as presently advertised for Range Lead Ingots: $66.15 to one's door.
The first "I take it" in answer to this post will be the one to purchase these handy size small ingots.
Thank you.
~ K
