    Trade gun range report

This was my 3rd trip to the range with the new trade gun. I have at least 40 rounds through this smoothbore altogether and I'm just starting to get used to it. I know I have a long way to go, but the last three shots were very encouraging. they were a little to the left of the quarter size dot, but it was a bit windy.
Thanks to waksupi and rfd for some good advise on sighting this smoothbore. I did drop the charge to 60 gr. 3F .530 rb .015 patch

So 28 gauge then? And which trade gun ... Frenchy or american or english?

Nice shooting and at what yardage please. Pictures of the baby would be nice if you can manage.

A hearty welcome to the forum as well

    Thumbs up

Damned nice group, Flintlock! Patched RB only or did you also use an over powder wad?

Just patch and ball. I did want to try the over powder wad, but If I can keep getting groups like this I might hold off for a bit.

That is one great group for sure. In all the muzzle loaders I have had over the years I have never owned
a smooth bore. I would love to see what that rifle would group at 50 yards.

Glad to see you're having good results. Could have been a bit of wind, but I'm betting you need to change your sight picture a bit yet, to bring it to center.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!
