Night Vision or Thermal Scope ?

One of these months I will get the paperwork done and be able to add a Silencer to my 308
As I already have the signed Crop Damage permits for Deer and Coon

I plan to use either the Savage 308 or the FAL to do the Deer part

As I am sick and tired of one of the Do Gooders that keep calling both the Game Warden and the local Police when I am using the Spot Light ( legal in Ohio )

I plan on buying a new sight for Night Hunting

I had a Gen 1 Night Vision Scope years back and was not impressed

But I know the new models are a lot better
But I see the New Thermal Scopes advertised also

Not sure witched way is better

I would like to be able to use one of them for shots up to 150 yards if possible

With the Spot Light I was head shooting out to 150 yards , by picking my shots

But that took 2 people and I would like to be able to hunt by my self if needed

And I know both ways are not cheap
But neither are the Migraine Med's

Thermal is expensive but if I had my ruthers...thermal!

Have you already developed your 'whisper loads' for the 308W.?

I don't like IR based sights cause you might be getting observed by a 'counter sniper deer'! You'd look like a lighthouse!

get a flashlight, good powerful one that uses red light.

easily mountable to your rifle, so two people is not necessary, and is pretty good out to 150 yds or so, longer if open field.

I have one for hog hunting works well.

sell them on Amazon for $50 or so.

If you have the coin - Thermal is the only way to go, but the satisfactory ones will run right close to $8K. There are less expensive thermals on the market and just might do very well for your intended use but there is a lot to be said about doing it right the 1st time.

Thermal if you got the means, Gen 3/4 if not - skip Gen 1 or Gen 2 NVD

Thermal ( flir) is best but consider the reliability. ATN (CCD) appears to be good for what it is.
    Whatever!

I'd go thermal and buy the best I could afford. It should work well both day and night.
