I sold a couple of guns to make room for a Marlin lever action. My two requirements were that it be a long barrel, 24" to 26". And that it be chambered in 30-30.

I have always liked the 336 Cowboy but those are out of my price range. I came across this the other day and decided to take a chance. The rifle was shipped to my FFL and I should get to see it Friday afternoon.

It is an 1893 with a 26" barrel. The seller says that the previous owner had it restored in the 60's. The wood looks terrific and the bluing is awesome, judging from the photos.

I can't wait to see how it shoots.

Is this an original 1893? As in "Manuf'd in 1893? If so, WOW!!! That is impressive. I'm always so impressed how well those old guns shoot. I've got an original trapdoor, and a couple of old Rolling Blocks. Really impressed who well they shoot and well over 100 yrs old. Just imagine how good they shot 100 yrs ago.

It is an 1893, I'm not sure yet what year it was made. I'm sure that having it re-blued destroyed the collector value but I want it as a shooter.

I will give it a good workout this weekend and post an update.

Congratulations. That is a fine looking old gun. Im interested to know the age of it. I cant tell for sure, but it looks as though it has a quality refinish job. For me, being refinished is part of the story of an old gun like that.

I'm working on a 1893 carbine in 38/55 right now. None Hunter has it and is trying to decide
whether to trade it to me for a pistol for a house gun.Honest exterior wear, excellent bore and
action. Hasn't been shot since before WW2.

Do determine the manufacture date. I believe all of the 30-30's were made of high speed steel, but the early steel is no where near as hard as the later varieties. (By "hard" I mean wear resistant.)
