Does 5.5 Gr of HP-38 (AKA 231) sound ok for a 230 Gr Plated Flat point. Will use it in a 220 Sig.

4.3-5.3 according to Hodgdon. 5.5 is over max.
4.7 gr of 231 is my go to load under a 230gr plated or boolit in my 1911
kids that hunt and fish dont mug old ladies
For 230 grain bullets in the 45ACP
Hodgdon data site says 5.3 of 231 is max for both jacketed and cast.
Lyman's 49th manual says 5.8 of 231 is max for both jacketed and cast.
Use your best judgement.
It would depend on the bullet, why we get this varying data. Not all 230gr are the same length so some seat deeper in the case, so less powder.
