    Rcbs promelt

On Saturday last, 15 April I attended a very small gun show in Lunenberg Ma. Was strolling among the tables and came upon a Promelt. It was unused and missing the valve rod. Had a price of $100 on it. I got it for $75. A new valve rod is on it's way curtesy of RCBS and their awesome customer service.

Why did you need a new 'valve rod'? I've been led to believe anything green is faultless. Please explain...

Well, No Blue. If you could read, you would have noticed that the OP said the valve rod was missing. And I don't know anybody who said RCBS green was perfect. Just that their customer service was darn good.

Thats a heck of a deal! Don't be surprised if something else has been "borrowed" from that pot, but RCBS does have some of the best Customer Service in the business.

My Pro Melt was used when I met its original owner in 1981. I bought it from him about 10 years ago. It developed a drip that got progressively worse. I applied some of the same attempts to repair as the Lee owners do but it continued to get worse. A call to RCBS had a new pot liner and stem on my doorstep in a few days. It was easy to replace and the furnace works like new. Kudos again to RCBS.

I have had my RCBS pot for over 35 years and always had a few drips while casting. nothing major mind you, just kept a mold block unit under it. A couple of years ago someone posted how to put a small coil spring on the rod to provide a bit of pressure on the rod. That works great, no more drips!! Who ever thought of this, I thank you! Somebody gave me a very well used one a few years ago, I returned it to RCBs in the box my new one came in and they completely rebuilt it for a nominal fee. Can't have too many furnaces, nice to be able to leave alloy in one.
