Need a little help ID'ing which model 336 I have

OK I profess to knowing little about Marlin Lever action models
need help to ID which 336 I have so parts can be ordered to stop cartridges from trying to feed back thru the loading gate
Assume there is a cartridge stop

Serial number starts 2214 so from that it looks like MFG date is 1979
All barrel has is model 336 30-30 It is a Micro groove barrel if that helps

ask away any questions and I will provide what I can till we get it fleshed out

    Greetings
Are you writing that when you are loading cartridges a half / mostly inserted cartridge is trying to push back out ?
If so that is normal as the long spring in the tube mag is doing the job it should. The solution is to hold that cartridge in place until the nose of the next to be loaded cartridge nose is pushing on the case head. Repeat this until the last is finally shoved under the loading gate.
Or completely load each cartridge so the loading gate comes back into place.

As stated above, rim mist be forward of gate and gate sitting back in position against receiver interior or out they come. Also most if not all factory guns the loading gate is usually very sharp on forward edge and internal forward receiver edge as well. They can and will bite the end of finger/thumb making bad words or red stuff. Stacking a few in hand using the next tip to clear but you always have a last one. Every one of mine has been disassembled and these areas radiused and polished along with other strategic areas, makes all the difference in the world. You can also usually soften spring which also helps but is a just enough not too much ordeal.

The loading gate is the cartridge stop. There is a spring that closes the loading gate. When you push the gate in it compresses the spring, and the spring pushes the gate back out. Is the spring broken or missing?

Sorry I did not describe the issue clearly. To top that off thought I had subscribe d to thread.
    Bad bad morning

Ok lets try this again. The issue is after loading 1 or several rds you drop the lever all the way down the Rd that should have fed up is stuck about 1/4 to 1/2 " out of tube and the lever is now locked down
Only way we can get lever freed is to work the Rd back into the tube
There is a good amount of spring pressure on the Rd from the tube . If you push 1 Rd 3/4 way down the tube and let go it will try to push the Rd back out the gate so don't think it's a weak mag/tube spring

I was thinking there was a cartridge stop that was not moving out of the way to release the Rd from the tube.
Show's my lack of lever action knowledge

The end of the cartridge carrier is the stop for the cartridges in the magazine. The carrier has a protrusion that extends through a hole in the bottom of the action when the action is closed. This extension should block cartridges from exiting the magazine when the carrier rises to feed the next cartridge. If the end of the carrier is too short a cartridge can get under the carrier. The wrong carrier , the end broken off the carrier or some 'failed gunsmithing' could cause that protrusion to be short. The loading gate is the loading spring. It is called the loading spring when referencing Marlin parts.

Ok so any issue with the cartridge not feeding up to the loading ramp (minus weak tube spring) would have to be the carrier?

if so then I just need to be sure of which model 336 I have to order a new carrier ..correct ?

Thanks for all responses as we get this figured out

    No, that's incorrect.

All .30-30 Marlin Model 336 carriers are identical/same - see part #8 in schematic below.

    Numrich Arms has the carrier you think you need, new @ $84 (part# 406320A), good/used @ $63 (part# 1594150A)

    https://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufac...008.htm?page=2

OTOH, your issue could be something amiss with the carrier rocker (part #9 in schematic below) - which is currently sold out @ Numrich.

My WAG, however, is that if the cartridge stop on the carrier is OK, you only need to replace the carrier rocker SPRING (part# 1454240B) - Part #11 in schematic below.

the Marlin jam that requires a carrier FIX. That is modern production so the carrier isn't different but the bolt is. Go to the marlin owners site for instructions. Also check that it isn't just the left side carrier screw loose. Always coming loose on mine.
    Whatever!

There is a small screw about an 1 1/2" behind loading gate, this is the screw that holds the loading gate/spring in place. If it loose it will cause the gate to drift into carrier/lifter and bind and can cause problems, check that screw. It is a very small thread and caution must be used. There are only a few parts in there and screws loosen on them quite often and all kinds of crazy things happen.

Marlin Owners forum might help. Your carrier might be bent. Fixed a Remlin 336 that had a similar symptom by bending the carrier down per advice from a former Marlin employee. Something is off because that vintage of 336 is normally flawless.
    Best, Thomas.

Simply swapping parts is probably not the best solution. As previously mentioned, loose screw holding loading spring(gate), dirt and gunk in the carrier/carrier rocker. Not much to go wrong with the carrier,
checking on the MARLIN OWNER's forum is a good thing. The Marlin 336 is very straight forward to take apart and put back together, many references printed and online. Again the carrier hasn't changed since 1949 or before, parts are available many places, EBAY, GunBroker, most gun parts suppliers, Brownell's. The bolt is the same on the 4 30-30's and 3 .32 Specials I have, all are pre-safety, though the roll pins replaced the solid pins of the early 50's bolts. The .35's bolt face is different than the 30-30/.32's but the rest is same.
