    Brass Pot

Any reason to not use a brass pot to smelt or cast in? I have one that would hold about sixty or more pounds of alloy. Don't have another use for it.

Brass will do good it transfers heat well and should be solid enough. You might want to heat cycle it a few times to get a patina built up on it like brass moulds though.

I think every single time you flux your alloy you will lose some of it due to tinning of the pot. Think about soldering for a minute, the flux cleans the base metal and the solder (usually a lead/tin mix) allowing the solder to bond with the part.

Bottom line, it will work, but I think there are better options out there.

I would tend to stay away if you had a high heat that would compromise the brass 60lbs of hot lead would be a big surprise

That brass pot is worth more as a cooking utensil, don't contaminate it with lead!
