    spg type lube info

gonna make some bp lube for my lubrisizer which will consist of equal parts of beewax / crisco (trex in uk ) and peanut oil by volume.
i know i can switch crisco with lamb tallow but would be beef tallow be suitable too ?
    your thoughts gentlemen much appreciated

it would, and bear or deer tallow works too.
you just have to be careful about the tallow's going rancid.
Crisco is vegetable oil so no worry's there.

I done some work with b-wax/Crisco/lanolin
and come up with a 60-40-10 ratio that works pretty well, it needs a little bump every now and then to keep it fully softened up.
I didn't know that everyone on the planet was already using pretty much that same recipe when I started picking and poking at a BP lube.
    but it works.

beeswax and olive oil in a 1:4 ratio works well too.

Your basically making a version of Emmerts lube with what you listed. Its very good under most conditions. The recipe is 50% beeswax, 40% Crisco, 10% canola or olive oil. The improved version cuts the oil to 5% oil and adds 5% lanolin. This works well for me in most situations.

proper tallow will not go rancid at room temperature through 2 Australian summers.
it is made by rendering only the kidney fat (suet) of the animal.
sheep tallow has a slightly higher melting point than beef tallow, otherwise they both work well.
cannot speak from experience about deer tallow, but reports are good.
the bullard rifle company recommended pure tallow to lube bullets fired in their rifles, and other companies recommended various percentages of tallow/beeswax.
pure tallow could melt in hot temps, but mixed with beeswax has a higher melting point.
tallow/beeswax lubes will crack off bullets after a period of time, but a little lanolin and oil in the mix will reduce this.
store tallow in a cupboard, so long as no rodents are around.
    keep safe,
    bruce.
