Got one I was going to get converted to an adjustable nose length flat point (for a muzzleloader) but it would cost so much I haven't pursued it further. Maybe after thirty years I should just get another 45-70!

I'll agree with Don, try the Saeco 480 grain. Mine casts at .459-.460 and Carries. a lot of lube and when shooting steel targets it knocks the heck out of them.

I'm not sure why more folks haven't shot that 645 bullet, it's as dependable as they come for a 45-70.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

http://oldwestbulletmoulds.com/products is where I bought most of my bullet moulds. Bernie is a good guy and he makes them one at a time out of brass, I have several 45/70 moulds, give him a call he's a wealth of knowledge, he took the time to teach me to cast when I was there visiting family.

I agree. Bernie IS a good guy! He has very nice molds that work well and stands behind everything.
Get him on the phone. That is the best way to get what will meet your needs.

I have a few Of Bernie Rowels moulds and they are very good moulds. The craftsmanship and pride are visible in them. I normally e-mail him with what I'm looking for and he sends back pics of the bullets he thinks will work.

O.K. so I did end up getting 3 molds not 2 hahaha

    One, the Saeco #645,

Two, the BACO 535 Grain Creedmoor

And 3 the MP Molds 460-420 hollow base.

    Thanks all for the suggestions!

Cast Bullet Engineering in Australia made this mold for me in the 90's, i imagine he still has the cherry. it comes out at 660 grains, Its exceptionally accurate in all my 45-70's both smokeless and black powder.Click image for larger version.
