I have been hunting deer with a 30 Caliber rifle for several years before stepping up to a 32-40 using lead, gas checked bullets for a better knock down and kill. So, for this next year I started looking for what else I had in my gun safe that might be even bigger than the 32-40. I discounted the 45-70 as being on the extreme side and more suitable for buffalo maybe. In the back of my safe I discovered an 8mm Mauser 98 that I used to shoot but never tried for deer hunting. The bullet I have is a Lee KAR 239 grain cast bullet with gas check. Does anybody have suggestions for loads using this heavy of a bullet in the 8mm Mauser?
