    Master caster clone

Here are a couple teaser pics.
    Had a busy week

    Those are the frames.
    Four clones in progress.
Steel frames. Heavy duty to the max.
The pots are the same diameter but are 60lb pots.
May take a couple more weeks to finish as I only work on it during free nights. Spring break is almost over.

There is one more at the other end of the bench. It was being worked on when I took the picture.
The first frame on the far left is finished except for the handle stop.

Plan to black oxide them (blue).

Using roller bearing instead of brass bushing for the shaft.

    Master caster clone

I will take a picture of the pieces we machined over the past year. Been a long drawn out process.
I think besides finishing up one frame (finished the other two tonight) the only parts to make is the pot linkage and maybe to spout on the bottom of the pot.
Already made the valve rod. Need to harden the point so it doesn't wear out.
Figure about 8 or 9 more shop hours.
Basically two or three more evenings.
    Unfortunately that means 3 weeks.

I am using a larger wattage heating element and it's 240 only

One machine is mine. Consider it two years rental of my caster.
Two are my friends whose shop and materials we have been using. And one is being given to my friends friend.

It's not been too bad as I cast a bunch of lead prior.
    Problem was I didn't reload 40 2 years ago.
I did load 10mm so I had a bunch cast up but not enough when between me and my brother we shot 200 rounds every range visit.
And I got this. 40 cal UMP semi.

    Yes it's SBR

That is awesome, keep the pics and updates coming.

This is exactly what i was planning on doing too, i wanted to make two friends for my current MC. I have most of the main parts sourced, just need time to actually get it done...... Every time i think yeah, i should get this done, i spend a few weekends casting, than i have enough cast to get me by so i decide to put it off again. Even though if i had three machines going, i could do three times the work in one day.

I really only need one machine. The clone is basically rental payment for me being without my caster for two years!!!
Lucky for me I always have 2 to 3 ammo cans of every caliber and I keep two or three coffee cans of cast boolits.
I am out of 40s and 9s (cast) but have at least one coffee can of each caliber left

I'd not survive without mine for 2 years

Seems like a good deal to me, a machine you can tinker with and not mess with your other one.

You can always sell later on if you decide to.

I have been fortunate that I have helped a lot of people that I was able to purchase cast boolits at a discount to keep me shooting.
But I am tired of buying boolits when I have 5k pounds of lead.

It's nice to hear they helped return the favor of your kindness, not all people seem to think of helping others out.

Wow, that's a decent stock pile of lead you have right there! I remember years ago, i had 800kg of range scrap stock piled, I thought that was enough to keep me going for a life time, but sadly that was not the case.

That's the plan next time I can get some shop time.
The pot linkage is suppose to be all machined.
    60lb (estimated) pot and a 3500 watt 240v element.

well. I hate to say this but the clone project is cancelled.

My buddy owes / owed the IRS over a 1/4 million in taxes.
I say owe/owed because I am not sure if he paid them or not.
I can say that I was lucky that I was able to get back my Case Pro 100 today when I went out there.

Last time I saw my Master Caster it was still in pieces and I only saw 1/2 the pieces with no clue were the other pieces are.

So right now I am trying to get him to purchase me a replacement MC.

Yikes!! that isn't good news at all....

It really bugs me that people like the IRS can come swoop in and take everything, even when there is no proof said item is owned by the person they are after. They should be footing the bill for the missing MC, as they stole it off YOU.

Good luck getting your "buddy" to replace your MC, i hope he does the right thing.
