Thank you for the great advice guys. I now see that maybe I was overthinking it and being unnecessarily worried about bullet blow up (and little penetration) with these short distance shots. I have my brass prepped and ready to load a few combinations to test for accuracy at the range. I appreciate everyone's comments and recommendations.

I agree with the round nose suggestions. Big impact and more often than not fine accuracy. And their ballistic disadvantage doesn't matter inside 250 yds.
    Best, Thomas.

Used Remington 180 grain round nosed bullet and some 4350 w/magnum primer CCI 250 if I remember right. Good accurate load and great for 100 yds or less. Bought 500 of these when a local gun store went out of business. Frank

Piggies at a <100 constant, bigger is better in my book on this one. I think my first pick would be the 180 RN's and work up the sugar load where I could shoot them in the ear hole. I am pretty sure anything would work, we are talking about the -06 here! All the things I have removed the life force from I still do not like to see anything suffer and do what I can to prevent it, even big stinky piggy's. That ear hole is like a lightning strike!

Barnes X bullets won't "blow-up". Load at whatever speed you want. they"ll work.

Yep, as you said in a later post, probably overthinking the situation. In an apples to oranges comparison a friend shot a pig with my .22-250 using a 55 grain Sierra Spitzer (soft point boat tail) propelled by 34.0 grains of IMR 8208 XBR. Velocity was in the vicinity of 3600-3650 fps per IMR data but I didn't chronograph the loads; was just loading for best accuracy. The pig was in the 80-100 pound range. The bullet entered just behind the right shoulder and penetrated to destroy the left shoulder joint. It did not exit.

The significant part is that it was much more velocity than you're looking at and the bullet held up well enough to do that kind of damage after penetrating the tough shield area. We loaded some 180 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips in .30-'06 to about 2600 fps (53 gr. IMR 4350) and they were very effective on pigs in the 175-200 pound range.
