I was wondering if anybody is shooting the .458 SOCOM in an Encore rifle or handgun. I was thinking about getting a 16.25 inch encore barrel in this caliber. Some people tell me the extractor on the Encore won't work on the 458 SOCOM, that's why I am asking here.

Likely the issue is in the case body being a significantly larger diameter than the case head. Geometry suggests that the extractor therefore would be blocking any SOCOM case from entering the chamber, since the extractor needs to come in a lot further towards the center than the case body. It may work if you have something similar to the muzzleloader swinging extractor, but with the right height for the case head.

It really makes no sense. the only reason the SOCOM and Bushmaster exist is to fit in the AR platform.
Encores are available in 460 S&W (.452) and 45-70 (.458). Those two will handle any 45 caliber task.

i would go with either 450 bushmaster or the 45 raptor. both are encore friendly.
