cz 550 fs

I been looking at buying a cz 550 fs in ether 270 / 30.06 / or 9.3x62 how are these rifles has anyone shot one ?

I see Bud's is still offering the 550 FS for sale and that CZ is no longer listing them in their on-line catalogue. The 550 is being replaced by the less expensive to manufacture 557 which is push feed (the 550 is controlled round feed) and lacks the single set trigger of the 550. Some folks refinish the stock on CZ products as often the wood is better than it appears covered by the CZ finish. I expect CZ to have a winner in their soon to come out striker fired pistol and devote manufacturing capacity to it reducing the supply of their other products. If you like it maybe get it while you can.

I have one in 6.5x55. Little wierd getting a cheek weld with a scope and hog back stock but I got used to it.
No complaints but I love manlicher stocks.

I have one in 9.3X62. It is a very accurate, durable rifle. It looks to me that it has really (!!) nice wood, full of figure and color, that some A$$hat covered with a dark stain. I have to get around to that. The catch is that mine is quite heavy. I will have to look in the log to see what actual weights are but I came to using a peep sight on it as the scope brought the weight above what I wanted. I think that I was using Talley QD mounts for a 2.5X. I recall filing a little on the rear mount to get it to jive with the action but there are several QD mounts available if you want. It is a good rifle if you like stutzen stocks.

My 550 American 9.3x62mm was plain stocked but amazing in every other way. The weight was right for a powerful rfle. With a 6x Burris it would shoot moa with P-P factory or 270gr reloads.

My experience with a foreign military unit that used CZ bolt rifles was very good. I liked theirs in 7.62 NATO better than the M24 SWC that we were issued at the time.

I have the 550 in .375 and it been a great shooter. I want to polish the bolt to make it smoother, thats my only con I have with it.

I have a 550FS in 6.5x55. Like Labradigger1 says getting a cheek weld using a scope is a little weird. I call it a chin weld. It took some getting used to but I like the rifle. It's very well made and accurate.

I like mine, good, accurate rifle. More an observation than a complaint is that compared to real Mannlicher's the full stock is rather clubby, like the Ruger's, as in too much wood. Upside is it probably isn't as delicate as the real thing.

The hogback begs for low mounted scopes. 32mm objective max.IMO.

I had a a550 in .243 .... gave it to my son in law so he could pass it on to the gradkids......the rifle was a tack driver....you cant go wrong with it...IMHO

I have the 6.5x55 550fs. One of my favorites. Like the others have mentioned the hog back stock takes some getting used to with a scope.

Bought a 24" Prestige (think American with nicer wood) .30-06 back around '96-'97. Bedded and floated, its an honest 3/4 MOA (sometimes better) rifle.

Got a killer deal on their .416 Rigby that also shoots extremely well if you can master your nerves.

Not really a fan of the single set trigger, but otherwise, it's an all-steel, Model 70 / Mauser 98 hybrid made by people looking to make a good gun first and a buck second. It's REALLY hard to find a quality blue/walnut gun not loaded down with castings, aluminum, or plastic that won't break the bank. The Czechs make it.

And their .22 rimfires. . .I'll part with my $150 beech-stocked CZ-452 military trainer when you're willing to cough up a $2000+ Anschutz in trade. . .and I'll wanna shoot it for group first.
