    8mm . . . Red Dot (PROMO) 175 RNFP GC Velocity

I searched and did not find any velocity numbers so . . .
    8mm 22" barrel.

Does anyone have a velocity for anywhere from 10 - 14 grains of Red Dot with the above boolit in the 8mm?
    What barrel length.

I am going to try to chronograph a myriad of loads this week, but not making any promises.

If it was me I would try 8 grains and see what you get. In theory I believe that case is big enough that it could handle the 13 grains of "the load". Correct me if I am wrong.

By the same token I have shot a fair amount of Red Dot in 30 caliber or larger rifles at rather modest loads of 4.5 to 6 grains with sometimes surprising accuracy. Easy on the ears, and the wallet with a big thump on the far end.

Isn't it anything bigger than 300 Savage and 7-8mm?
It's only hubris if I'm wrong.

If I remember right, C. E. Harris' "The Load" was on the presumption that you can just use 13grs of RED DOT so long as:
    1. The case is bigger than a Savage 300
    2. Modern rifle
    3. Typical bullet weight for cartridge!
    4. Don't use fillers!

I have shot 9-12 grains of PROMO so far and the group continues to shrink.
12 gr = 1" OTO and blows up a milk jug of water with authority.

Boolit windage impact has shifted 2" at fifty yards over this range of loads.

Not unlike what I was finding with 7.7X58 (will get back to that one yet, gonna actually FINISH ringing out this Mauser first).

I looked at your load in QuickLoad and it thinks 14 grains would put you between 35 and 40K psi (depending on seating depth) and around 1750fps. QL thought your 12 grain load would push it at around 1600 fps, 32K psi. so a comparison to your actual velocity would give you some idea of how well QL might be predicting velocity and pressure for the 8X57.

    In M48A I had Lyman bullet+ 13.3Gr of Promo going at 1550fps.

Lee 165Gr did just the same with same speed yet produced slightly worse accuracy.

I wish Lee bullet was made with just a bit longer nose or the same nose as Harris boolit. It would feed much better in Gew88.

My 175 grainer is the Group Buy Boolit from many years ago and feeds through this Mauser better than any rifle/caliber/Boolit combination I have ever shot. Boolit 0.900", OAL 2.980

I guess I will have to try it with other 98s and see if they all feed it this well.

I usually have trouble with cast Boolits feeding off of the left side and this one feeds a full magazine off of both sides as a well as any coated bullet loading.

    I have some at 12, 13grains of PROMO and 18 10B101 to try tomorrow. . . . LATER, . . .Loaded but not shot . . .
    Rain stopped, gotta cut grass.

I had shot 4 of the 10B101 loads on the last target and it looked real good also.
Good enough to test in additional loading.
