I hope I did well. Ruger Old Army SS 4 Digit

    Hello All,
I picked this gem today at a local gun show. I had trouble finding a decent price to offer so I hope it worked out on my end. Seems to be un-fired. The nipple wrench is still stapled in the package. White chalk on the side of the has the serial number of the firearm. It also has the 200th year of liberty marking on the top fo the barrel. Thanks for looking and any comments. Boats

I got a deal on one that was unfired about a year ago. I paid $525, however, in like new condition the going rate in this area is $625 to $750.

Ruger needs to run about 20,000 of these for those without one of these fine firearms.

They are great shooting revolvers and unfortunately in a moment of fiscal shortage I had to sell mine. The price has skyrocketed because the demand to put conversion cylinders on them is so great. Which to my feeble mind detracts from the joy of shooting of a cap and ball revolver. If you want a cartridge gun then buy one.

i had one and i bought a howell 45 long colt converter for it and shot 45 long colt in it. it was a tack driver. the only reason i sold it was i wanted one with the traditional sights instead of the target sights. the castboolits member who bought it said it was a tackdriver in 45 long colt and loves it. i put aftermarket wolf springs in it and it was smooth and accurate. the problem is the ones that are more traditional looking with out the target sights go for a grand now. so ive switched to uberti ssa and tune them up for the same price. however if i could get the traditional ROA i would do it in a heart beat. i could reload that ROA to 45 long colt as fast or faster than a SSA colt uberti. what ever you paid for it, it is something you want to hang on to.

Would you make not owning one a condition of buying one of the 20,000? I guess I would have to temporarily give mine to one of my sons. Why not make the run for 40,000 for those of us who like them so much we would buy another.

This surely is one that deserves a rerun of production. I'd get one!

I got one from a police auction in 1985 for $40 (blued 80%finish). I sold it unfired a week later for $125. I realize all these years later I was an idiot.
If I find another i'll try to get it!

Very nice looking find! As far as Ruger making more.... if they have discontinued the .44 special, they surely aren't about to pick up a dead line like the .44 black powder. And they would have to be made with the transfer bar now anyway.

Only issue you are going to find with your ROA is you are going to want another to go with it

I believe the reason Ruger stop making them. Was the story how ruger proof tested them with smokeless bullseye powder. Yep some people are dumb enough to try it. I have read in news story how people were killed or hurt trying to use smokeless in a black power gun.

Sadly, Ruger has discontinued a lot of fine firearms. They seem to be migrating to Firearms that can be built with mostly unskilled labor.
