I would find a way to cut it up into smaller chunks so it could fit into a smaller pot.

The pot will be the easy part. The stand to support the pot with that much weight and heat will be the real chore. I agree with the above find a way to cut it up to fit in a normal sized pot and melt into ingots. Otherwise measure the blocks cross corner and height this gives you the size pipe and when melted the runds on the flats should give close to what you want for clear space on top. Lead is about 35 lbs a quart so you want a 25 quart pot. Find a bucket or tub the dia of your pipe and fill it with 25 quarts of water. Weight isn't the same but volumne will be. Measure the depth and add 5-6" to it.

    About 22 inches tall.

    lead density .4 lb/in3 so 800 lb is 2000 in3
    volume of a cylinder = pi x r x r x L
    length of 20" ID pipe to hold 800 lb = L = 2000/(3.14 x 10 x 10) = 6.3"

Just melt with torch. If you're determined on the method described, measure your block of lead. Assuming it's a block

A block of lead that big sounds like a sailboat keel weight which is made of lead, zinc, and whatever is is laying around. Are you sure its just lead?

Put the lead on a piece of tin roofing, sitting on concrete blocks or stepping stones, bend it up on both sides, elevate one end higher than the other. If you melt the lead with a torch, direct flame, it will run down the tin into a metal bucket or can. If you have a few coffee cans you can make the weight manageable on a per can basis.

If it is military ballast or counter ballance it may well be pure lead. The DOD is particular about their ballast. I have some of their bolt on weights.

http://bethandcodylivethedream.blogs...-keel.html?m=1Sailboat builders use a cast iron bathtub with the lead inside a swing made from two 90 degrees Elbows a close nipple in between and a piece of pipe to screw into the swing. You are likely going to weld or bolt a pipe flange on the tub to attach the pipe. Point the pipe up, ensure it is longer than the tub is tall. Build a bonfire under the tub. Once the lead comes up to temperature tilt the pipe down. Instead of a keel mold waiting for you you need to make a dry sand trench with a series of hollows off to the side called Pigs. Dry SAND ONLY!!!

Deposits on Beer Kegs are $ 50 Cut the top top off and let it rip. Hold it up with fire bricks and use a banjo burner, melt in no time
I would rather fish. Can you shoot fish ?

If I lived closer, I would help!! I'm used to making small WWs into large chunks so I would like to try to make a large chunk into smaller ones.
