A good article regarding the Lyman version of this bullet and high velocity, written by Ken Mollohan, entitled "Research on Limitations of Cast Bullets", can be found in THE ART OF BULLET CASTING (Wolfe Press) pp 121-124.

We only got two folks signed up in this one. Surely some more folks just don't know about it. It's going to be a fun boolit!!!

NOE 311-122-FN Rerun: I agree with you on that...

    Beagle333,

We only got two folks signed up in this one. Surely some more folks just don't know about it. It's going to be a fun boolit!!!
I'm thinking you hit the nail on the head right there.

    _ _____

That the problem getting sign ups for many re-runs molds is that new folk don't know what the original intent was for many of these re-run boolits.

    Example's like:
Short neck case , Marlin micro groove, over size military bore, Ruger only, N frame specific, original mold cast undersize, non tumble lube version, tumble lube version of a non-tumble lube boolit, classic 1873 BP design- but with crimp groove added, made for the K31, 30-06 specific, goes good with jam.

    Stuff like that.

Searching for ancient discussions on designs that started with one name, but when all was said and done the end result had another name makes it hard to search the history.

    Exaggerated Example:
Say a Group Buy discussion about a Lyman 308465 clone, became Jerry's Super Spit 312 when it went to the Active Buy page, and it's been called Jerry's 312 ever since. Then 4 years later there is a re-run.. so the Newbies search Jerry's 312 and come up empty with what the boolit is about and no idea why some are so excited.

I'm just saying those of us that have been here and were attentive to a design discussion or two may know the history and intent of some of these re-runs, but many newbies do not. Then again those of us that have been here awhile may have missed the original GB, dropped out, or forgot what the big deal was ourselves.

I'm just thinking ALL re-runs should have an explanation of the design intent in the description, and/or links to the old thread discussions if we want better turnout.

30-30, 30-40, 308 Win, '06, .30 carbine, and I have seen where some have used it in 32-20 WCF and are happy with it.
Maybe more...... I'm going to use it in 30-30 mostly.

    It's really a Lyman 311465 clone.

Kinda a blunt nose for a BLKOUT. Also, such a light bullet, may be hard to get it fast enough to cycle a AR. Now a bolt or single action, this would probably be a fun bullet in the 300 BLKOUT

I agree that many times suggesting good ideas for use might expediate the group buy sign up. I know often I'm searching my somewhat limited "mental cast boolit diaries" for what a new group buy might be good for.
