    Cleaning Hi-Tek coated bullet residue?

I've really drank the Koolaid regarding Hi-Tek bullet coating. It has put most of my lubrisiers into mothballs. I'm transitioning to using it on all my bullets.

What about cleaning the Hi-Tek residue out of the barrel? I use Ed's Red without the acetone because I don't shoot shotgun and have not needed to remove plastic residue.

Should I add the acetone back into the Ed's Red formula when dealing with Hi-Tek? This is my assumption that Hi-Tek is some sort of polymer that acetone may deal with better. I'm really not interested in switching off Ed's Red but I'm more than willing to modify the formula to suit.

Im glad you posted this! I just received my first powders yesterday and will be starting this weekend. To your question, i have always run 5 copper rounds through the barrel at the end of a session when i PC. Do you think that might not work with hi-tek?

If cured properly, I've not found any needed. Acetone won't do anything to cured HiTek.
    Whatever!

Agreed.....one of the tests of a good coat is to rub in acetone.

You might move your post up to the simple Hi-Tek thread. That way Ausglock and Joe and others will give you their ideas on what you are seeing. They are the experts.

just post a new question in that thread.
adding this thread on the end of that one would just make it longer.

Hi-Tek Joe mentioned a solution that would remove cured Hi-Tek somewhere in the 400 + pages. Easier to ask him.

N-methyl-2-Pyrrolidine is the name of the stuff (wrote it down), but I've had limited luck finding it other than as a lab grade reagent or as an ingredient in a superglue remover.

After firing thousands of rounds of HITEK coated in commercially coated and home coated, I have never ever had coating left in the bore.
    Never.

    9mm, 38 Special, 357Mag, 357Sig, 38 Super, 40S&W 44mag, 45Acp, 45-70.
    None have ever had it.
Sure. Plenty of powder fouling. Hoppes on a bronze brush. then patch out and super clean shiny bores.
    Hooroo.

I don't get any residue shooting Hi-Tek coated bullets just powder following and Hoppes takes care of that easy.

My latest test that left my barrel really clean was .45 ACP with a 203 gr SWC cast from straight COWW with 2 coats of Gun Metal coating with VV N310 loaded to 820 fps and after shooting 100 rds there was really nothing left in the barrel to clean out.

Love it when you get responses that it never happens, and yet we have members trying to deal with Hi Tek fouling. May have been a problem in application process, but having to use something like N-methyl-2-Pyrrolidine is below average.

    Why is it below average?
If handled correctly, it is no more dangerous than any other chemical cleaner.

What do people use to clean powdercoat out of their barrels??? Propane burner??
    Hooroo.
