Letter from Alliant re- BE-86 VMD & 2400

The VMD for the Alliant BE-86 is 0.088.
We are still making this propellant and all the rest. We make 18 different propellants at the New River Energetics (NRE) facility. 2400 is one of those made at NRE. NRE had been running 24/7 for years and at full capacity. Batches of propellant that used to last us 6-8 months today are not lasting 6-8 weeks and in the case of 2400, I don't think the last batch lasted 4 weeks. The last batch hit the shelves in early August and by mid-September, I was again getting calls as to where this could be found again. And those calls have not stopped.
Hopefully with the changing political climate, supplies will start to stabilize in the market.

I think I would like to try 4100. Have anyone tried it for reduced loads in a 30-30 or a 30-06? Is it pretty much comparable to 2400?

4227 also comes close to 2400, I have preferred 4227 in many similar applications.

AA4100 is Ramshot Enforcer, the same powder. I have used this powder quite a bit in magnum revolver work. In handgun loads it is slower than AA#9 but faster than H110/Winchester 296.

I use the enforcer/4100 in the 300 BO using 2400 data to work up from.
it generally comes right in about .2-.3grs lower for the same velocity as the 2400 does.
right now I'm using an older lot of commercial C-4180 I swapped dick casull some other powder for during the powder drought.
when that's gone I have 2+ more jugs of Enforcer to work with.
I don't think i'll be looking for any 2400 for quite some time. [never thought I'd say that]

Good info. I am always curious at what they make in Radford. My Grandfather was working there when he met my grandmother. I might not exist had it not been for that plant. I favor Alliant powder that I know is made there.

Last 2lbs I bought was at Bass Pro. They will ship to store for free if they have it in stock online. They are a bit more pricey than most other dealers though.

One pounders are on the shelf at Bass Pro in Nashville. $39.99 per pound plus 9.25% sales tax. They have re-defined stupid.

I do know Bass Pro will price match things. I have not attempted to get a price match on gun powder, and not real sure if they will match something that is ship to store and or who they would be matching. Just a thought though.

I just noticed it is not letting you add 2400 to cart. You can add Power Pistol to cart, so may still be out of luck with 2400.
