    Pewter addiction

So not only am I a lead addict, I'm now addicted to pewter
I pulled out my pewter stash and weighed it tonight.
85 pounds of hallmarked pewter and I've only melted one beat up
    candlestick so far.
    I can't help myself .. I enjoy the hunt

Money in the bank. I made a few thousand bucks selling scrounged pewter here a couple years back. Did over 700 pounds. Now my stash is a little smaller but everything I kept for my own use is 97% Selangor.

I wish I could find it here. I managed to find that pewter champagne bucket the other day. That was the first pewter piece in seven thrift store trips.

I feel your pain. I have about forty pounds that averaged out to six bucks a pound but have only melted down a beat up candle holder the same as you. I can not bring myself to melt the rest. ...yet.

Not going to melt a pitcher with "made specially for Gimbal's" on the bottom of it. It has a certain cool factor to me.

In about the same boat as you, 6mm. Weighed my total a couple of nights ago and it's 42 lbs. According to my spreadsheet, I'm spending an average of $4.37 a pound.

It's all melted though. I have one 23lb ingot I'm going to take and get XRF'd this week.

I envy you guys that can find pewter. Theres not much around here. Its just as well, I have mixed feelings about melting it down. I know its usually not worth very much but it seems a shame to loose whatever history it had and the workmanship that went into it. This is not intended as a slight to any of you guys that do

    I hear you light man
I have a few pieces that look extremely old
and some are just to kewl looking to melt down.

It has taken me years to accumulate my pile .. I try to stay under 4 dollars
a pound. I've walked away from a lot of pieces. . They think it's gold.

I know what you mean about melting down a piece of history. I found a Stieff bowl, SI-6P-17, marked Smithsonian Institution, 19.5 oz, Not a whole lot of info about it on the net, other than Stieff has been out of business for a long time. I did find a couple of posts someone selling the same bowl for about $20-$25. I only paid like $2-$3 for it. It's not dented, although it has some stains inside.

Like I said guys, my feelings about this are just mine. I'm not judging anyone. I would gladly melt a simple plate or bowl but some of the pictures you guys post have some beautiful stuff that required lots of skill. Also like I said, I don't find any so it don't matter. But I'll drop a bar of solder into a pot quicker than quick can get ready!

Snagged five, smaller, but heavy, goblets today. All matching and .42 lbs a piece. $ 1.99 for all, at half price. Woodbury Pewter, I'm undecided.

I totally get it. I bought a piece off eBay for 99 cents shipped. Came all the way from Israel. Was very beat up, but still unique and beautiful. Wondered about the history of it for a while, then felt a bit guilty as I watched it melt in the pot. Really hope I haven't destroyed any pieces of history, but I do research everything before it goes in the pot.

I picked up a tall Salingor? pitcher and some napkin rings today, 3 lbs, 3 oz. total weight for $11.26. yeah, I can handle that.

Stopped at the salvation army thrift store yesterday.
They had a stack of 4 pewter cups for $5.99 each.
4 little wine glass shaped cups for $3.99 each.. one was missing the foot.
1 pewter cup with a glass bottom for $4.99
    Are they nuts?
I have to go back and ask the manager if they really expect to sell this stuff for those prices.
    Crazy
