    Lead prices going down

Don't know about your neck of the woods but in my area lead prices have dropped. Took some cans , copper & brass in and did the usual what the price of lead. Used to get the typical $.50 a # and the guy is a prick. Give the bs you got competition, others are buying it, yada-yada-yada. Same a$$ was all ears when I asked about lead and said take all you want for $.25 a #. I cleaned them out of pigs and other bars on the spot.

Today I went back in and asked if the $.25 a # was still on. Same guy and the same smile. WOW!! Had to get another #300 pounds.

X-ray wall sheets with a bunch of commercial sinkers in the bucket coupled with some lead pipe.

You might want to check with your local scrap yards. Picked up #500 of lead in 3 days for $125, the lead should clean up to around #490+ of pure lead/ingots.

Thank you for telling us. The spot rate chart above reflects a twenty cent drop, today.

That's a screaming price. I'm going to pick up lead this week. A couple of weeks ago it was $0.80 a pound. If I found lead for $0.25 a lb I'd get a ton.

I stopped at a local scrap and the guy had 1053 lbs of mixed wheel weight's, I just wanted 1 bucket but he wanted to sell me all of them and got the price down to $0.33 per lb for the whole bunch.
Looks like I will be sorting all year, so far I have found some new types of zinc weight's I have never seen before and a lot of steel.
I guess I won't know if this a good deal until it is all sorted and melted.

The last batch of wheel weights I bought was 585 lbs. $0.20 a lb. The useable material ended up at $0.34 a lb. Not bad. I'm supposed to have a guy calling me with five buckets.

Forrest I don't know what's going on there.
but I'd sell something and clean them out of everything they got at that price.

I pretty much cleaned them out of everything but their ww's. The ww's are a mix of fe & zinc ww's combined with soft stick-on and lead ww's. Standard mix straight out of the tire shops in 3 55gallon drums. I just don't feel like sorting thru it to toss 30% of it. They do have a 900# sailboat keel that I've been eyeballing. Might pull the trigger on that.

Two weeks ago I was able to get mixed WW for .15 per lb for the scrapyard. Picked up two 5gal buckets and sorted. Close to 95% of that was lead.

I was using new math. Wait, I can't use that excuse as I'm old enough for the old math and memorizing times tables.

    Now that's a screaming deal.

I haven't even tried to buy any from scrapyards, but the tire stores I've asked say they've been selling to the scrapyards for .10-.14/lb.

I'd pay a buck a pound if our scrap yards would sell it to the public.

I dropped off some recycling stuff Saturday and asked about some Linotype. He had a partial bucket with larger single letters I think is monotype. He asked how much I wanted and I said all of it. It was 83 pounds and he charged $62. I was pretty happy.

25c +/- isn't moving the needle much at retail. It is always location dependent & some places will be higher than others. If I coul dbuy decent scrap lead for 25c / #, I would buy a solid ton & call it good.

Lot of sinkers are zinc now... might want to check those!

None of the local scrapyards will sell lead unless I want a rail car load...
