Red face Lee Lube Sizing Kits

Ok, I know many of you will tell me to look at other manufacturers but I look for Lee for a few reasons, one being affordability. That being said, I have two Mosin-Nagant 91/30's. I have slugged the bore of both and they both have a bore diameter of .312. I have looked every place I know of and can't find a Lee .312 or .313 lube sizer kit. Does anyone know why they don't make one? They make a .314 but that would concern me of leading my barrels. All of my manuals state in the data section for 7.62x54R that the bores of the rifles coming from the former Soviet Block countries are usually .312 diameter. So you would think Lee, among others, would make a lube sizer that is .001 over the bore diameter. Does anyone here use the Lee .314 lube sizer for their mosin rifles with a bore diameter of .312? If so what kind of results do you get? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You're talking about the Lee sizing kits with Alox? Yeah they work best with PC

I don't know it would work with the LLA but I run .314" cast boolits through both of my mosins (.312" and .313") without any trouble. I size them with a LAM2 and gas check them though.
It's only hubris if I'm wrong.

Lee also makes custom sizing kits.

However, you'll probably want to use 0.314 with bores that size. Are yours wartime production?

I'm starting experimentation here as well, so let's keep in touch.

    Regards,

    Josh

Yeah but my mold is the lee C312-185-1R. Would there be any point in sizing to .314? I don't know what diameter they drop yet, I haven't cast any from this mold yet. I can't afford to buy the sizer if it won't size my boolits.

    What mold do you use?

Yeah, thats the sizer I use and I use both LLA and PC, and size them both through the lee lube sizer. The only question is would there be any point in using a .314 sizer with boolits from a .312 mold?

Sure if you beagle the mold for a larger projectile

Normally an noe316-299. I also have the lee 312-185 that you do and I don't think they drop big enough to size .314" (most are .313"-.3135" if I'm remembering correctly) without a powder coating first. That said, if I knew I wanted to use that bullet I'd be tempted to press the gas checks on and pan lube as cast if they were all .3125" or bigger.

A .312 bullet sized at .312 in a .312 bore is a good chance for major leading.

1-3 thousands OVER bore is what you want for finished size.

Now many use PC to accomplish that. Me I just leemented out a .312 185 gc and bought a .314 lee sizing die and finally got my pair of Mosin's to shoot, at least better than minute of 5 gallon bucket at 25 yards, with no leading.

Coffee cup at 50 is probably accurate, not a big cup. How much of that is old eyes and iron sights is hard to say.

I cast mine fairly soft, mostly range scrap, add 1.5% tin or something close to that. If I can get COWW ingots I'll mix those 50/50 with range scrap and 1% tin and get really good boolits.

Fit is first, bigger, not the same size, or smaller. Then come the other variables like alloy, lube, load. Start with fit and work from there. It is a shorter easier road. Don't try to do it all at once.

You'll never know what worked and why and what did not work.
