I cut a large piece of lead with an old repurposed butcher knife and a heavy hammer, put the blade where you want the cut and tap away, any large knife should work, make sure you have a solid surface to work on.

Some of the guys I worked with are great at breaking things. I'll ask them.

Thats a good score! A lot of guys use a dutch oven from Harbor Freight to smelt in. Or cut off an old propane tank.

Give them to the kids and tell them "no matter what, do NOT break these" will be in pieces in ten minutes ( Sarc), I use my axe when I need to reduce the size. My old body likes the workout till the next morning.

Rig a ratchet pulley from the ceiling, slowly lower it and melt off a hunk then lift it clear and pour. Rinse and repeat.

Cheap stainless steel sauce pan from thrift shop or Salvation Army store. Cheap propane torch from Harbor Freight or big box store. Hot plate or even a camp fire, can skip the torch if you put the pot on a camp fire or charcoal bed with a couple of bricks. Plenty of heat there.

Don't trust a handle that is over cooked by a fire they get brittle and tend to break, don't ask how I know. But with gloves and face shield take pot and dump into muffin tin from same thrift store or Salvation Army or big box store.
Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

Kind of hard to claim to love America while one is hating half the Americans that disagree with you. One nation indivisible requires work.

I have an ingot that I too need to process down in size. I am unsure how to go about this. My ingot is a tad heavy! Mine was the smaller of the bunch. It is about 3'x1'x1'. Not a perfect rectangle, but prolly 2.5 cubic feet. It is pure.

nanuk, if you can drill 1/2 inch dia holes thru it on 1 inch centers, you could melt it faster and let the melt land on concrete.

that is a good idea with the holes to help with melting, but I would put a piece of steel or corrugated steel roofing sheet below. don't ask how I know but not all the lead will come off of concrete, no matter how much you scrape and chisel!

I bought scrap from a hospital demolition. It contained two 1/2"x4'x6'8" cores from radiation therapy rooms. About 1k lb. ea. Needed to cut up before scrapers stole it. Rented an electric Jack hammer with a spade bit. Cut like buttter. Boy was I tired after that.

I had a bunch of lead pipe and bars. I literally grabbed a concrete block and a crappy old splitting maul. Worked very well, for a zero budget, low tech attempt.
