I wouldn't forget about Zeiss glass either. I have one of the (now discontinued) Conquest on my Tikka, and the glass is pretty phenomenal for the price. I think the new version is called the Terra. Don't know if it's the same quality as the Conquest, but if so....I call it a winner.

Here's the Terra....not a bad deal if it's the same glass.

The Weaver or Leupold. The cheap Burris is like looking through wax paper. Burris has gone to the dogs with their rifle scopes. "I shouldn't put dog's down like that" ? Forgive me.

Leupold is never a bad choice but my last few scopes have been from the weaver kaspa line and one is the 4-12x40 on a 8mm and I'll tell you it's a great deal; lot of glass for the money! Repeatable clicks, via grid tests, very sharp clear glass good field of view and this sporterized Mauser kicks like a mule with full hop loads, one more thing; fridged days in a tree stand in MI and hunts in rain/high humidity and I haven't had fogging issues at all my VX3 scope in same power range maybe a better scope but not by much and not at triple the price!

I put a vortex diamondback on one of my dad's rifles recently and I'm liking it so far. It's in your price range, too.

The Bushnell Elite scopes are great clear scopes. I have 3 of them. Same scope as the Bausch & Lomb . Bushnell bought the Bausch & Lomb company.
