    Load data for 35WCF

A friend has 1895 Winchester in 35WCF and he has problems with cast bullets. He has asked me to help, but I cannot find any data for 35WCF. He is using 41grs of IMR3031 with 240gr cast bullet, which sounds like an overload to me and the group is about 12 inches at 100yds - very poor. Any help with information would be much appreciated. Best regards, Alex

Your friends rifle is a good candidate for slugging the throat. You may find the dimensions generous, and may need to rely on a soft slug and/or stiff/fast charge to get it to fully obturate.

I give loading advice based on my actual results in factory rifles with standard chambers, twist rates and basic accurizing.
My goals for using cast boolits are lots of good, cheap, and reasonably accurate shooting, while avoiding overly tedious loading processes.

The 1958 Lyman manual shows the following loads with 358318 (245 gr, gas check):
    4198/25.0gr/1500fps
    3031/34.0gr/1680fps
    4064/44.0gr/1975fps - max load

This manual also shows a max load of 3031/42.0gr/2050fps.

I've used 25.0gr of 4198 with NEI358.220 and NOE359009 and had no problems. I shoot at 50yds and get 2", 10 shot groups.
