    Scope ring screw only available?

Down in Muzzleloading I have a post about my Pastor's Knight rifle - kept under his bed and never fired.

Whoever he got it from was a gorilla - It has a Tasco Scope on it that is dented and the cross hairs are broken. Two of the ring screw heads were stripped - one completely and I had to drill it out, the other I could grab with a torx end.

Now I have rings missing screws - and I only need two. I know it's a fillister end and I can get the size and thread checked at my local hardware store. Are they my best choice to find two screws?

Oh, his rifle is OK, I had spare rings and a spare scope.

You will not find that thread pitch at the hardware store. Brownells or Midway will have them.

The Ace Hardware near me does have Gunsmith Sized Threaded screws.
They are seperate from the other screws they normally stock.
The Gal that works there pointed them out when I happened to tell her that I was a gunsmith.
But normally I just order them in a Kit from Midway or Brownells.
The scope ring cap screws are usually 6-48 or 8-40

I bought a cheap set of (millett?) rings once and the screws promptly broke when I tried to tighten them.

I called brownells, which is where I'd bought the rings, and they sent me a set of better-grade screws as replacements immediately, at no cost. I didn't even ask for the screws; I just asked how to return the rings, and they offered to send the screws.

Mine does not. They have a lot of stuff and I enjoy shopping there, but they don't have gunsmith-sized screws. Or roll pins. Or a handful of other things I've tried to get there.

You can call the manufacturer of the rings and they will send free replacement screws.

Stopped at my local Ace Hardware today and asking about guns sized screws. That one didn't carry them.

There is a place online that you can buy individual screws. I can't rememeber the name of it. Found it on eBay. I will look through my files and see if I can find it for you. He is a nice guy and doesn't charge crazy prices. I think I paid a couple of bucks for the screws I needed for an old Weaver mount. I think they were 8-40 or something like that.
OK found it but the most of the links don't work anymore. Maybe you need Internet Explorer which I do not have. I am also including a link to eBay so you can check there. Another suggestion is to post the size you need here and I am sure someone will offer to give you a couple of screws.

Gotta take one to the hardware store to have sized. Apparantly they used one metric size and one American size, no idea which this is.

A hardware store just up the road from me has them also. I would at least check your nearest store.

Depends on the ace, some are better stocked than others. On N of me, has tray of gun specific screws. One s of me is lucky to have regular bolts, they have the rows of bins, just all empty.

Ace Hardware now carries gun screws, looks like the Brownell's assortment and your screw will be in there.

I have gotten Cheap rings in Horse trade deals or on rifles that I bought.
Some of them had stripped or Odd metric screws.
I just drilled them out and retapped them to 6-48 or 8-40 screws that I had plenty of.
