Hornady 125gr SST and the .300 BLK

Just finished up doing some testing with this bullet in the .300 BLK, I thought other may be interested in the results. Details are below.

    - Rifle: Ruger American Rifle Ranch .300 BLK 1:7 twist
    - Bullet: Hornady 125gr SST
    - Brass: unfired Remington factory .300 BLK
    - Primer: Remington Small Rifle
    - Powder: H110 & Lil' Gun
    - Distance: 50yds
    - Temp: 40°F

I started with a 5 shot group of Hornady American Gunner 125gr HP to foul the barrel and have something to compare to. I then followed with 5 shots each: 17gr H110, 17.5gr H110, 18gr H110, 20gr Lil' Gun, and 21gr Lil' Gun. Depending on the data you look at, the LG loads were over max, but they are right at max according to Hodgdon. The pics really tell the story, the Lil' Gun performed the best and according to the data should definitely be fastest. The yellow dots are 1" diameter.

The 18gr of H110 should be running close to 2200fps and the 21gr of Lil' Gun should be clocking in at ~2400fps according to Hodgdon. Just as a note, the 21gr of Lil' Gun is a compressed charge and I did notice flattening on a couple of the primers. I will probably stick to 20gr as a go-to load with this bullet.

Really you're right, without the fliers on the first two groups (which could have been me) they're all pretty darn good.

I didn't check. It was only 10 rounds, and they were fired slowly, so I doubt it heated up too bad.

I'm anxious to try these at 100 as well. The 300 Blk is a fun little cartridge for sure, I thoroughly enjoy loading and shooting it!

I'm not home where I can measure them right now, but I can tell you that I seated them at the cannelure and OAL was 2.10"
